A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, often without any product or service being delivered.
However, legitimate network or multi-level marketing businesses can be distinguished from illegal pyramids by their compliance with these three criteria:
1. Substantial sales of products or services to end users
2. Commissions paid on product/service usage
3. Company buys back the inventory of terminating participants
What I have found regarding complaints about Legitimate Network Marketing companies is that the person complaining:
1. Was never part of the program
2. Doesn't know the real definition of a Pyramid Scam
3. Is generally disgruntled
4. Clueless
5. Is unsuccessful in their current JOB or Business
