The Professional Institute of Technology is continuing to grow its facility and offer additional relevant courses to the Las Vegas community. Focusing mainly on the career changer and unemployed, LV-PITA offers courses in Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, Intuit and Adobe. Their programs are designed for individuals who need to take more time to learn an application than an 8 hour course.
While they do offer some fast track courses and boot camp style training, it is not the focus of what they do.Director Laurie Clemens explains, “I have found that most career changers and people learning software for the first time, need the repetition of multiple sessions. Plus with the added benefit of computer based learning, there are multiple formats for each person’s learning style.”
Since opening in June, the center has helped over 200 unemployed or career changers to learn software, and have succeeded in helping students find work. Some students come in for a short two week course, and others are in school for up to a year or longer.
The center also focuses on helping individuals with disabilities and is involved with agencies that help the disabled such as Bureau of Vocational Services and the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Right now courses are offered during the day only, but after the first of the year, evening and Saturday sessions will be offered as well.
