Tamara W. Ashford is Counsel at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP.
Ms. Ashford’s practice deals with complex federal tax controversy and litigation matters involving both domestic and international tax issues.
Prior to joining Dewey & LeBoeuf, Ms. Ashford served as a Senior Advisor to the Commissioner, Large and Mid-Size Business Division (LMSB), at the Internal Revenue Service, and was the U.S. Director for the Joint International Tax Shelter Information Centre.
As Senior Advisor and Director for JITSIC, Ms. Ashford was a member of the LMSB leadership team and specifically provided leadership in combating abusive tax shelters and implementing LMSB’s strategic initiatives on abusive tax avoidance transactions.
Before serving as Senior Advisor and Director for JITSIC, Ms. Ashford served as the Assistant to the IRS Commissioner, where she was involved in providing guidance on such matters as foreign tax credit generators, sale-in/lease-
Ms. Ashford is also an experienced appellate advocate who has argued numerous civil tax appellate matters in federal circuit courts across the country, having begun her career in tax as an attorney with the Appellate Section of the Tax Division of the Department of Justice.
