The Flower Power Generation sought to return to the earth and resurrect the nearly forgotten Native American culture. One of the great symbols of the Indian culture was the buffalo. At one time millions of buffaloes roamed the Great Plains of the United States but nearly vanished from the face of the planet. Poetry in the time frame of the 60s and 70s flourished like the buffalo, but has virtually vanished from popularity with the American public. Yet today there are still small herds of buffaloes throughout this nation, and like the buffalo, poets and poetry survive through small presses and poetry societies.
