PR Log (Press Release)Nov 19, 2009 – This coming New Year, millions of people will be trying to lose weight, get fit and tone up and of these a very big percentage will choose running as their main focus. Many of them will use training schedules they've got for free from the popular running or charity websites.

Unfortunately because of a lack of knowledge or understanding, using one of these running schedules may actually do more harm than good because beginners feel they should stick to the training times or mileages exactly.

They’ll learn absolutely nothing about running and gain no understanding of how their body should respond to the training they’ll be doing. The majority of these new runners won’t get further than a couple of weeks in to their training, they won’t see the progress they were hoping for and this means they’ll give up too soon due to frustration, injury or a lack of motivation.

Created as a response to the lack of sound training advice and effective running schedules that are available for new runners, Jago Holmes, director of New Image Fitness Limited has created an innovative new 5k training program designed to get beginners up off the couch to 5k running in rapid time.

‘The problem with these giveaway training schedules is that they’ll teach beginners absolutely nothing about training to run a 5k’ Jago says ‘what they usually are is basically a chart that contains either distances or miles to run each day, it’s similar to a magician teaching someone how to do a trick simply by demonstrating the trick, without uncovering any of the theory and techniques behind it. When trying anything new, beginners need to understand exactly what it is they trying to achieve so they understand how to do the training and why it should be done.

I felt there was a large gap in the market for sound and effective training advice. Too many beginners start running but stop before seeing any real progress because they make some simple, basic errors. All of which can be easily avoided.
