Olympics, Queen's Diamond Jubilee, WorldPride–New Website Launched For Visitors To London In 2012

At precisely 20:12 (London time) on November 18th, the Web's first (and so far only) site about every major event in London in the summer of 2012 was launched by Paul Parry, whose late father played a major role in bringing the Games to England.

Nov. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- Parry Jr created the London2012UsefulInformationGuide.com website as a way of combining a passion for his home city with a tribute to his late father, who attended every Olympic Games between 1968 and 2004 as a journalist and media consultant for the Reuters news agency.

“My Dad, Steve, lived for the Olympics and the Olympic Movement, and I’d been searching for a way to pay tribute to his great work. I wanted to create something that he would have been proud of.

“And it’s just great that London is going to be where it’s at in three years’ time, what with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, WorldPride and of course the Olympic and Paralympic Games. That’s why I set about producing the London 2012 UIG [Useful Information Guide],” said Parry, who has been working on the project since the end of 2008 and has since become a director in an online marketing business.

Parry continues: “There seem to be plenty of websites already about the Olympics and London as a tourist destination, featuring listings and such like, but there weren’t too many around which highlighted all of the major events going on in England’s capital in three years and combined them with practical, unique tips.”

The website aims to serve foreign visitors to London, particularly those from the US and Canada, as if they were “sitting opposite a trusted friend who knows the city and its workings inside and out.”

As well as content dedicated to each of the major events, Parry and his business partner, Peter Tydeman, who also knew Parry’s late father, will be providing unique help for tourists about accommodation options in London (“with only around 100,000 hotel rooms available, people are going to have to think beyond the norm,” adds Parry) the transport system and the English capital’s restaurants.

There is also an interesting section giving visitors “the Inside Scoop” – practical suggestions on subjects like “20 Things Not To Miss” and help for disabled visitors. It also features information on some of England’s most popular destinations beyond the capital – for example, Oxford, Stonehenge, the Roman city of Bath and of course the “other” Stratford (the Olympic Park is being built in Stratford, East London, while Stratford-Upon-Avon, which sits 100 miles from the city, is the historic home of William Shakespeare).

“This is very much a work in progress,” adds Parry. “Pete and I have done a lot of research already and it’s going to be a fun time between now and the summer of 2012, and we can’t wait to add more and more helpful information for people.”
