Cania Infante, a resident of Freeport, NY, and manager of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union (Bethpage) Freeport branch, was recognized with a Community Service Award during recent ceremonies marking the 2009 Village of Freeport Hispanic Heritage Month.

Over 400 people attended the event held at the Freeport Recreational Center to recognize Ms. Infante and five other recipients:  Village of Freeport Fire Chief Miguel Cardoso, Jr., Village of Freeport Police Lieutenant Miguel Bermudez, Freeport Adult Continuing Education’s Flory Carmona, William and Vicky Diaz -- publishers of Noticia Hispanoamericana, and Manuel Mendoza, founder of NY Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Cania Infante, who holds an M.B.A. in Human Resources, began her career at Bethpage eight years ago as a loan representative.  She was promoted to Business Services Relationship Manager, and then to her current position. Her management and marketing experience have transferred readily to her community efforts.

Her commitments within the community include serving on the Board of Directors for the Hempstead Chamber of Commerce and the Nassau County Youth Board.  She is a member of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Latina Task Force, and is an active member of the Long Island Hispanic and Freeport Chambers of Commerce.

Each spring, along with many Bethpage employees, Ms. Infante volunteers as a site coordinator for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), a program offering free and bi-lingual help to low- to moderate-income families in need of assistance and guidance in preparing their tax returns.
