‘No Going Back: Empowering Single Parents Out of Poverty,’ hosted by Single Parent Action Network , (SPAN), will be highlighting strategies to reduce single parent poverty, combat discrimination, and support one parent families in a changing world.
How will political leaders prevent the unprecedented levels of poverty, stigma and discrimination of the 90’s, and support one parent families in moving forward in their lives?
In an economic downturn and with 2010 being the European Year against Poverty and the forthcoming General Election, the presentations of these two strategic leaders take place at a critical time.
The following roundtable discussions will include single parents, self-help groups, civil servants, public and voluntary sector workers and researchers working on family poverty.
The outcome will be a platform of policies and initiatives that will be presented to politicians in 2010.
SPAN director, Sue Cohen says: “1 in 4 families is now a single parent family. These families are some of the poorest people in the country. Single parents are especially vulnerable in the current economic situation. We will be using this event to explore solutions for empowering single parents out of poverty, bringing grassroots to government.”
