Financial Soultions has learned that technology giant Intel Corp. is looking closely at new opportunities in forecasting wind for the ever growing wind power energy generation sector as well as information management systems for the emerging electric vehicle industry.
The Santa Clara, California based firm is already selling microprocessors to the global wind turbine manufacturing industry, and sees wind forecasting as the next step in expanding this area of its business with the wind power industry relying heavily on accurate forecasting, such as when the wind will blow and how fast.
"There's a lot of opportunities for sensor technology and high performance computing," Intel's director of marketing for its Eco-Technology division was quoted as saying recently, Financial Soultions believes, "We are starting to explore it."
The company has indicated its willingness to develop its processor and software presence outside the traditional markets and has invested in a number of green technology companies through its venture capital arm Intel Capital.
There has been large growth in the solar and wind power arenas with many governments and businesses looking to decrease their carbon footprints and cut down their greenhouse gas emissions as global alarm about climate change mounts.
Intel is also taking a closer look at the electric vehicle field, with the director saying that the transportation sector is “very ripe” for microprocessor application, Financial Soultions was informed.
"Electric vehicles are going to contain a lot of electronics,"
