It’s easy to see celebrities as being very different to ourselves.
Surely actors and supermodels have had a different start in life to us mere mortals?
Maybe their parents paid for them to go to expensive stage schools or they had friends in ‘high places’ who got them into the business?
Of course sometimes this is true - but it certainly isn’t always the case.
Here at Models Direct we know that breaking into the entertainment industry is often more about luck than one might expect. With this in mind, we thought it may be interesting, and fun, to do a little research on the subject.
It didn’t take long for us to find out some facts about a few of our favourite celebrities that made them seem far more human and endearing. As it turns out, some of our favourite personalities have made it from surprisingly humble beginnings!
Here are a few of our favourite celebrity facts…
Jourdan Dunn – Currently a British supermodel, Jourdan Dunn was discovered in Primark and her ambition at the time was to become a Saturday girl in Top Shop.
Our favourite Jourdan Dunn quote: "I would like to be more womanly, like Beyoncé. In the black community it's all about having a big bum. Not everyone wants to be skinny."
Agyness Deyn – Currently a British supermodel, Agyness Deyn famously worked in a fish and chip shop before making it as a top model.
Our favourite Agyness Deyn quote: “People always say when they meet me, 'I didn't know you were common!’ It's funny, because I always think, like - I pretend to be a model. I know that sounds really weird.”
Johnny Depp – Currently an Oscar-nominated actor, Johnny Depp sold pens before he became famous.
Our favourite Johnny Depp quote: “If there's any message to my work, it is ultimately that it’s OK to be different, that it’s good to be different, that we should question ourselves before we pass judgment on someone who looks different, behaves different, talks different, is a different color.”
Brad Pitt – Currently a Golden Globe Award winner. Brad Pitt dressed up as a chicken to pay for his acting lessons prior to hitting it big.
Our favourite Brad Pitt quote: “I believe you make your day. You make your life. So much of it is all perception, and this is the form that I built for myself. I have to accept it and work within those compounds, and it's up to me.”
