Nov. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- The new staff initiative held at the Majestic HQ, is set to run alongside their existing WSET Diploma course as a means of boosting in house knowledge and passion for Bordeaux wine, which is traditionally popular at this time of year.

Emma Pook, Online Commercial Manager at Majestic said, “Majestic staff are known for being among the best trained in the business, which enables us to give our customers well thought out opinions and all the necessary wine information they would require. As part of the new training seminars, Majestic played host to Edouard Moueix, Sales Director for JP Moeuix, which was a great opportunity for the staff who were inspired by his wealth of wine knowledge.

“Edouard was fascinating to listen to and presented some unique analogies for wine and its behaviours, he was also very clear about the kinds of wines he and his family make. “

As well as tasting through an intriguing selection of wines from the Moueix stable, the team at Majestic were able to get to grips with the ‘Right Bank’ of Bordeaux, distinguishing St Emilion from Pomerol and Grand Cru from Grand Cru Classé and Premier Grand Cru Classé.

With other seminars having focussed on E.Guigal from the Rhône Valley and Catena from Argentina, the new scheme is set to position Majestic as the firm to trust for expert wine knowledge.

Based on the west coast of France, Bordeaux is responsible for some of the most iconic wines of the Old World. Central to the winemaking region, Bordeaux is split down the middle by the river Gironde and the two regions either side are generally referred to as the ‘left bank’ and ‘right bank’.

Praised for their high quality nature, wines produced on the ‘right bank’ are generally more approachable in style and can usually be drunk at a younger age than their left bank equivalents. The wines of this region have long been a staple part of most great wine cellars.

Wines from the right bank contain Cabernet Sauvignon, but contain considerably more merlot than their left bank counterparts, as a result they make for a much more silky and smooth style of wine with distinct plummy fruits.

Possibly the most sought after wine in the world, Château Pétrus is also from the region, but attracts a much higher price bracket. Thanks to the experts at Majestic you can pick up similar wines with exceptional quality, for a fraction of the price.

Emma added, “Bordeaux really is the region of choice for the winter months and it really is not hard to see why. Majestic are paving the way with their levels of wine knowledge relating to this area and we look forward to speaking to customers in store about our opinion and experiences with Edouard Moueix”
