Warren Transport, Inc. launched a generous IN-SAFE Program

The combined "incentive" and "safety" component program pays individual, monthly bonuses to drivers and mechanics. The monthly financial rewards are hailed by employees who earn additional pay for their specific good performance and lauded by the company that saves on fuel bills and employee lost-time accidents and equipment damage.  

Recent IN-SAFE payouts amounted to $14,557 for August and $17,497 for September (paid the middle of the following month).    And, since its inception, the program has cut down on the company's accidents and Workmen's Compensation claims.   71% of the drivers surveyed at the summer Safety Meeting noted that the IN-SAFE program "makes them a more conscientious driver."

In brief, there are two components to the program: 'IN' which stands for the 'incentive' side (where managers will measure overall work performance) and "SAFE' which stands for 'safety' (where managers record any lost-time accidnets, equipment damage, safety infractions, etc.).  Based on the manager's evaluation of the employee's performance in these two areas, a monthly additional check is issued....or not.  The monthly bonus is based on a percentage of the employee's gross pay for the previous month - the percentage based on a years of service table.  WT's goal is that each employee be financially rewarded on a timely basis for individually doing a good job.  If an employee is knocked out of the bonus on one component side, they may still qualify based on performance on the other side.  This monthly measurement also encourages increased regular direct feedback between employees and supervisors.  And, the increased incentive to do well ande arn more salary, WT finds, is also resulting in more satisfied employees who stick with WT for the long-term.  New employees are eligible to participate immediately on hire.
