Ashworth College to spread holiday cheer through the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes

Ashworth College to deliver personal holiday greetings to military personnel, veterans and military family members as part of the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes initiative.

Nov. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- NORCROSS, Georgia – Ashworth College will make the holidays brighter for military personnel, veterans and military family members this year as it lends supports to the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes initiative.

In the days leading up to the 2009 holiday season, Ashworth administration and staff will deliver holiday cards with personal messages to the Red Cross, which will in turn distribute to service members recovering in military hospitals, active duty service members stationed throughout the United States, veterans and military family members.

“As an educational institution, Ashworth is proud to have numerous service members, military spouses, and veterans as students and alumni,” said Melissa Maddox, Ashworth Military Services Manager. “The Ashworth staff is extremely excited to give back to this important community.”

Now in its third year, contemporary music artist Amy Grant was on hand to kick off the 2009 Holiday Mail for Heroes program on November 11 in Washington D.C. Last year the program received more than 1.4 million cards for military men and women, their families and veterans.

Throughout the year, Ashworth makes a concentrated effort to support worthwhile causes to include the Habitat for Humanity, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, The Salvation Army, and March of Dimes.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
