After a two-year tour wowing audiences from Chicago to Los Angeles and receiving numerous awards, “CSI: The Experience,”
Originally commissioned by the Fort Worth Museum, the traveling exhibit will arrive as part of the Grand Opening ceremonies of the new Legorreta & Legorreta-designed Fort Worth Museum of Science & Industry, November 20, 2009.
“CSI: The Experience” is an interactive and fully immersive science exhibit. Featuring web-based multi-media and incorporating key cast members and elements from the popular CBS Television Series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,”
Design Island, headquartered in Orlando, Florida is an award-winning multi-media group that was the creative leader on the exhibit’s design.
“The exhibit puts guests in the middle of the actual CSI experience,"
Bringing CSI: The Experience to life was no small accomplishment.
Producer Cynthia Scrima and Design Island co-owner, Bob Weis, initiated the project by approaching CBS and “CSI” producers with the idea. They then went to FWMSH who secured the National Science Foundaiton grant. Weis also directed “CSI” cast members, including William Peterson, in videos that are an integral part of the exhibit.
“We had the opportunity to visit the "CSI" television set and spend time in actual forensic labs in Fort Worth, Baltimore and Florida," says Steinouer. "It was a great way to assure our activities, clues, and design correctly represented the science disciplines involved. We even had a real blood spatter expert on hand to help properly place blood in one of the exhibit crime scenes.”
The exhibit is targeted toward adults and youth age 12 and above.
“There was always a strong motivation to use “CSI” as a way to interest and motivate young people to get engaged in science and problem solving,” says Van Romans, President of the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History. “It is a great example of the synergy that can happen when education and entertainment work hand in hand.”
To date, "CSI: The Experience" has been recognized with the Themed
Entertainment Association’
traveling exhibit with a limited budget. The Thea Award, which honors excellence in creating memorable guest experiences, is considered the industry’s highest honor.
The original Design Island project has been copied in Europe and Las Vegas and will soon be opening in additional U.S. locations.
Creative partners with Design Island on CSI: The Experience include CBS, Emerald Palms Design, D7 Inc., Luna-Red, Hunt Design, and Seruto and Company.
