"Portable storage units can be modified to serve as a solution to address health safety issues in the face of the H1N1 or regular flu," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the NPSA. "With more visits to hospitals and the possibility of more students turning up with H1N1 symptoms on campus, administration needs to be prepared to handle the issue."
As of 25 October 2009, worldwide there have been more than 440,000 laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1 2009 and over 5700 deaths reported to the World Health Organization. In order to prevent the spread of the swine flu virus, hospital and school administration can set up modified portable storage units to isolate patients from the rest of the population, administer vaccines, or conduct H1N1 screenings.
"It's important for administrators at healthcare facilities and schools to be prepared for the worst this flu season, even as we hope for the best," said Joel Rathbone, NPSA Operations Manager. "By renting or purchasing modified portable storage units, we may be able to stem the tide of new infections and save lives."
