Philadelphia, PA - In a new twist on an old formula, Philadelphia songwriter Mike Hobson hopes The Good Music Project will reinvent the pop music “one hit wonder” niche to the financial benefit of Doctors Without Borders international humanitarian efforts in Zimbabwe and beyond. The Good Music Project, an international effort, is a project still in its infancy. Mike Hobson hopes to invite and attract songwriters and musicians to work outside the Record Label and Indie Record Label industry to sell songs online direct to consumer. Eliminating Labels frees up considerable administrative fees typically claimed by the Lables. The songwriters and musicans working on The Good Song Project will split post-tax earnings 50/50 with Doctors Without Borders. "Even with all of the changes brought about by online pop music marketing," says Hobson, "the song remains the same and one hit wonders are still out there waiting to be discovered."
"I think Mike Hobson has an interesting idea", says a leading record executive who requested anonymity for obvious reasons. "And frankly, it's interesting because his production and marketing model is quite simple and very workable."

"No one really knows what it takes to become a 'one hit wonder' ”, said songwriter and The Good Song Project executive producer Mike Hobson, "but it continues to happen unpredictably and on a regular basis. Of course, it all starts with the song and I think we, at The Good Song Project, have a good one in Mick Star's ‘Tangled’. And with the right amount of internet buzz, 'Tangled' can happen everywhere immediately. iTunes and Amazon.com make 'Tangled' online sales as easy as logging on and in then, in a matter of days, hours and maybe even minutes, 'Tangled' is an international hit. And, in this case, Doctors Without Borders gets a big chunk of 'Tangled's online revenue.”
Meaningful Marketing “I like the concept of splitting revenue 50/50 with Doctors Without Borders”, Hobson continued, “and without a record label the split is significant. With iTunes, for example, I make a pre-tax profit of $0.70 on a $0.99 download. That means Doctors Without Borders makes $0.35 with every download. And that is meaningful.”
Time Will Tell
“All The Good Song Project needs right now is a hit”, says a leading record executive who requested anonymity for obvious reasons. “Hobson’
