As a result of this year’s successful introduction of the Shox-Box™ into the rowing equipment market and overwhelming customer demand, Blackstone Automation is pleased to announce the launch of the C2 Slide Bracket Kit for Shox-Box™
Some rowers have said that they use the Concept2 (C2) slides to make rowing the erg easier on their backs. However, even the C2 slides do not address the compressive shock to the lower back that occurs at the finish on an indoor rowing machine. The Shox-Box™ allows the ergometer to move vertically diverting that shock from the spine into the Shox-Box™ enabling the rower to train with less trauma. When pairing a Shox-Box™ with the C2 slides the on-water feel is enhanced with the addition of vertical motion simulating the buoyancy of a boat and the strain on the rower’s back is reduced by relieving spinal compression.
Designed specifically as an accessory for the Concept2 indoor rowing machine, the Shox-Box™ is a suspension system that will get you a better workout on your legs and core while relieving the strain on your back. The patent pending Shox-Box™ provides three main benefits to the ergometer (erg) experience:
1. Reduction of back stress: The repetitive trauma due to the compressive shock felt on the back during every erg stroke is diverted away from the rower’s body into the energy absorbing components within the compact, easy to use, Shox-Box™ .
2. Quality feedback on your stroke: With this compliant suspension attached to the erg providing a more ‘on-water’
3. Increased resistance training: The average 1 inch incline that the Shox-Box™ provides on the leg drive will prepare indoor rowers more effectively for races or testing.
David Baker, Blackstone Automation President and Shox-Box™ inventor, comments,” as a life-long rower, crew coach, and two time lumbar surgery survivor, I am thrilled to have developed a product that will help so many in the rowing and exercise communities make it through those erg workouts without all that trauma.” Baker adds, “While the C2 slides by themselves are very effective in managing the horizontal forces in the stroke, the slides still sit rigidly on the floor and therefore offer no vertical motion benefits like the Shox-Box™. By combining the horizontal smoothness of the C2 slides with the vertical compliance of the Shox-Box™, it is a near perfect replication of the feel on water with every stroke.”
Whether you are young or old, have back trouble or not, row on the water and train on the erg, or just use the erg for fitness, you will endure between 8 and 25 pounds of compressive force on every stroke you take on the erg. The Shox-Box™ is the solution to divert the potentially harmful compressive forces away from your back.
