TAMPA, FL—Tampa Digital Studios, a digital, video and film production company, today announced that it has been selected by the American Boat Racing Association [ABRA] to produce and broadcast the inaugural Oryx Cup UIM World Championship in Doha, Qatar. The live web stream broadcast will air Nov. 19 – 21, 2009, via abrahydroplanes.com, the web site of hydroplane racing series.
The partnership between Tampa Digital and ABRA, together with the Qatar Marine Sports Federation [QMSF], is bringing unlimited hydroplane racing for the first time to the Middle East region and then broadcasting it to enthusiastic fans around the world by way of the Internet.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to give hydroplane racing fans a quality broadcast of the Oryx Cup using the growing Internet medium,” said Mike McKown, director of broadcast management, Tampa Digital. “This event adds to our strong stable of major sporting events coverage streamed live around the world.”
The coverage will include multiple video cameras, interviews and play-by-play audio for each qualification heat and finals.
His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, president of QMSF, and Sam Cole, chairman of ABRA, stalwartly support the hydroplane championship in Qatar, agreeing that this event and live Internet coverage is “the start of the future [of hydroplane racing] for us.”
Sheikh Hassan, the driving force behind the emerging sport of power boating in the State of Qatar, said: “This is a break through for the marine sport to go live on the Internet, and it will give more exposure to the sport. This will allow all who love the sport to be able to see it live anywhere around the world. I do believe it will take hydroplane racing to a new level.”
