FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov 16, 2009 -
From 18th November – 9th December, Pilotlight will be holding a fundraiser to support its ambitious 3-year plan to triple the number of charities and social enterprises it works with by 2012.

This will be a ‘Money Can’t Buy’ Skills Auction, reflecting the Pilotlight philosophy of skills sharing.

One of the amazing lots on offer is to spend Chill out for three nights at the luxurious Huntaway Lodge in the north island of New Zealand

The Sunday Telegraph describes it as “a fabulous, modern timber house perched above three beaches and pristine coastal scenery. Most hotels on this coast have fine views but the panorama from the rooms here is in another league”.
You can choose which room you stay in. As an example, the Te Ngaere room is at the eastern end of the lodge and is best placed to view the sunrise over the Cavalli Islands. Leave the full length window blinds open so you won’t even have to get out of bed to witness the event. Slightly elevated from the rest of the lodge, Te Ngaere has its own private deck accessed either from the main deck or from the room’s double doors.
This prize, and many more, will also be available to bid for online from 18th November to 9th December. Visit http://www.pilotlight.org.uk for more information.

Pilotlight also has many ‘Behind the Scenes’ prizes available to bid for – supporting its belief in mentoring and coaching. These would make great work experience placements for anyone wanting a taster of their chosen industry. These include a week’s work on the Spectator magazine – Britain’s oldest and best-selling weekly political magazine; and a day at Pet Doctors, shadowing a vet.

About PilotLight

Pilotlight is a charity that helps other charities to grow, and to reach more people, more effectively. They achieve this through a unique process of placing teams of senior business leaders (Pilotlighters) into ambitious, innovative charities and social enterprises.

By mentoring and coaching them through the process of planning for growth and financial sustainability, charities that Pilotlight has worked with experience an average growth of 54% within 2 years. The average growth for voluntary sector organisations is 6% per year.

Currently, Pilotlight supports over 50 innovative grassroots organisations.

One example is Globetown Learning Community, based in Tower Hamlets, on the fringes of the City. It works with low-income families to raise the aspirations of their children.

Leon was 15 and in danger of dropping out. By taking part in a mentoring project run by the charity, he was encouraged to stay in education. He now has a degree and plays American Football for Great Britain.

Globetown’s Director, Jackie Barnes, says: “Without support from Pilotlight we wouldn’t be here now. It was a massive learning curve for us all but they gave us the foundation we needed. We are more likely to get funding now because we have a decent business plan and strategy in place. Everyone at Pilotlight is so positive and they really want it to be a success . . . it’s a team effort.”
