Twitter is one of the fastest growing social media networks out right now, mainly accredited to its "real time" updates in which an unrecognizable person can achieve overnight fame.
There are many ways a person can become famous because of Twitter and tips which can lead to this success. The easiest way to be recognized on Twitter is to be famous in real life. Celebrities undoubtedly have a huge selection of followers which is accredited to their real life fame, but how do you succeed if you are not one of these people?
One easy way to get recognized is to start following people. A common courtesy in the Twitter-sphere is to follow back. In order to make yourself stand out and worthy of following, try to make your tweets interesting or reflect on a similar topic each time. Also completing your profile and connecting it with your other social media sites or e-mail account signatures will show people you are on the network.
Concise content in 140 characters or less is sometimes difficult, but necessary in this world. If you span a tweet across say four or five different tweets, people are more likely not to read it. There is a reason for the 140 characters. Also, the use of hash tags and @replies increase your chance of being recognized. If you @reply to someone who has a lot of followers and they @reply back, chances are a lot of their followers will see your Twitter name and possibly check out your page. Connect and network with people you can help and can help you in return. Also make sure your tweets are not blocked and you are being transparent with what you say. As a member of the network, you have to be willing to take the good feedback with the bad.
Sometimes Twitter can cause uproar like it did after the MTV Video Music Awards. When CNBC was conducting an interview not in relation to the event, but a tweet came from an off the record comment heard by ABC's @TerryMoran that said "Pres. Obama just called Kayne West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT's presidential,"
Can you blame someone for covering news like this? Or in cases when a tragedy occurs and someone tweets the news of it first before a paper or news station, people go crazy and follow those tweets to see the breaking news first hand. Real time comments, especially ones that cause a stir can create action and interest on your page.
So if you can find something out of this world that happens and be the first to report, instant fame is sure to occur. If you can't be so lucky, try following others and being unique to get yourself recognized in the Twitter world.
