Nov. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Sierra Madre author and resident, Linda Courtland, will read from her new flash fiction collection, “Somewhere to Turn: stories,” at 6:00 PM on 12/8/09 at Sierra Madre Books in Sierra Madre, CA. Courtland will sign books immediately following the reading.

“Somewhere to Turn: stories” is a collection of very short stories featuring telemarketing dolphins, voyeuristic cell phones, a potentially amorous GPS unit, and an SUV that doubles as a guest bedroom. These 37 short tales mix both literary and speculative genres, and provide a quick fiction fix for today's busy reader.

“Personally signed copies of this unique book make great holiday gifts for friends and co-workers,” says nearby Altadena resident Laura McLennan.

Linda Courtland, author of “Somewhere to Turn: stories” says, “Flash fiction is a cross between poetry and prose. With only 1000 words to tell a complete story, you need to use bold images and evocative language to make a lasting impression.”

Ron Osborn, Writer of “The West Wing” and “Meet Joe Black” says, "These stories are a lot like really good dark chocolate squares that you just can't quit eating. The observations of human nature are sharp. She'll often start from a familiar, relatable place but go somewhere you didn't see coming, to surprising and humorous effect.”

Journalist Bill Peters says, “From the friendless Facebook user, to the temp-worker dolphin with an orca boss, the stories are easy to read…“Somewhere to Turn" is more than a simple writer's exercise into brevity, it is a compilation of previously published works of some of the most hilarious, and, yes, outrageous, stories.” (Sierra Madre Weekly, 11/5/09).

“Somewhere to Turn: stories” is published by Brookside Press and is available exclusively at Sierra Madre Books and Amazon.com. Sierra Madre Books is an independent bookstore in the heart of Sierra Madre Village. It is located at 52 W. Sierra Madre Blvd.

Linda Courtland's short fiction has appeared in numerous publications and anthologies, both in print and online. For more information and an author biography, please visit www.LindaCourtland.com
