On December 4th 2009, Rainsong Animal Sanctuary (www.costaricaanimals.org)
will be holding the first annual Children's Environmental Awareness Holiday Party for over 300 of the public school kids of Cobano, Costa Rica. This party is in collaboration with Green Wave (www.inspiringwavesofchange.org)
, a U.S. based grassroots environmental non-profit, to help fundraise for the expense of healthful baked goodies for the party goers.
Costa Rica is home to nearly 4% of the world's biodiversity yet it comprises only 0.03% of the Earth's land mass. And so, the Rainsong Animal Sanctuary and animal rescue center draws visitors from all corners of the globe as it is a home and rescue center to many animal and bird species including ocelots, pacas, aracari toucans, capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, parakeets, anteaters, squirrels, opposums, deer, kinkajous, porcupines, turtles and many more!!! Costa Rica has been internationally recognized as a leader in conservation, but the fight has only just begun. Pressure from development and resulting habitat loss, in addition to continued poaching and illicit pet trade present serious challenges for the forest and its animals. To combat this, Rainsong sponsors excursions to visit the rescue center and short tours of the a government environmental reserve, Reserva Cabo Blanco which is located in the area of Cabuya for the kids at all the local elementary schools during the dry season with the help of Keiner Rodriguez, owner of Transportees Rodriguez, a bus service for the Cabuya area, who donates his services to this noble cause.
For the Children's Environmental Awareness Holiday Party, Green Wave will also be assiting in creating educational slideshows in regards to environmental awareness and hygiene for the Cobano students with the help of the newest Green Wave ambassador, Marc Gonzales, a teacher of Green Wave's "pilot" high school, Chula Vista High, part of Green Wave's "Hubs of Change" program which inspires people to help others. It was a perfect fit as Mr. Gonzales is in charge of a student organization at Chula Vista High called SHOP (studnets helping other people).
To raise the funds necessary for the party expenditures, Janine Johnson, founder of Green Wave recently this past week, launched the"Change for Change" pilot program, with the revolutionary new development group, Kalia Modern Eco-Living (www.kalialiving.com)
, which marks the launch of the philanthropic venture between Green Wave and Kalia. Kalia is leading the real estate development industry in the northwest pacific coast of Costa Rica, specializing in designing and building sustainable “eco villages”. Kalia designs, builds and will maintain sustainable, ecological smart villages, integrating extraordinary architectural design within the unique ecology of magical Costa Rica. Kalia seeks to transform people’s way of life by setting a new standard in sustainable development. They believe that by developing an eco smart village they are helping to maintain the finest and most precious resource of all, Earth. Although Kalia's corporate offices are in L.A., the company realizes that they should give back to the environments in which the affect. In this way, they were a perfect fit for Green Wave's pilot program "Change for Change" and will hopefully be part of more Green Wave inspired initiatives to create environmental awareness, recycling, and of course, reforestations programs with the assistance of Rainsong.

http://www.prlog.org/10414315/1Green Wave's mission is to inspire waves of change by creating living examples focused on living consciously, peacefully, and harmoniously with the environment and with each other for the well being of our planet. We carry out our mission through living education projects and other education initiatives. Our belief is that education serves as the foundation for change. Our living education projects demonstrate the delicate relationship of people and nature within our rapidly-expanding global community. Our other education initiatives are more than simply “green,” but rather holistic, sustainable, forward-thinking and ever-changing. We describe our approach to education as “ecolistic.”We believe all schools should adopt green curriculums and values, serve organic foods, and teach in healthy and energy efficient buildings.
The Rainsong Animal Sanctuary mission is to preserve and protect the area of Cabuya Costa Rica via conservation education, animal rescue and reforestation.
