Nov. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Decadence for singer JoJo Nichols comes in the form of spaghetti Bolognese from the legendary Los Angeles hotel Chateau Marmont. After touring for a grueling three and a half months behind his upcoming Independent debut album, Vertigo, returned to Los Angeles for a well-deserved rest. Touring is necessary but it gets old, and the artist has begun the long process of recording his follow-up, tentatively called, 1600 Harden St. Inspired by writings from College days as the title borrows the address from Benedict College. The new disc is keyed for the clubs. Per usual, Nichols's lyrics address male-female dynamics, but the first single, "Addicted," also slyly alludes to the obsession of love. "Most of the record is very literal” he says, calling in a little tipsy after a big meal. "But whether I'm talking about the state of the world or a family situation or my own romantic situation, I can always equate it to a relationship between two people."

Speaking of Italian restaurants, I heard that you were of Spanish Descent?
I am of Spanish Descent. I love all types of music but I definitely have my days when I just want to relax and listen to Spanish music, and we get together and dance and eat, eat.

How can you tell if a song is going to be big?
I have a very young nieces and nephews, and if you can get a kid singing the words to a song after they heard it for the first time, it's a hit. They really liked "Addicted" and "Frozen" [from the new album]. Kids have no censor. They'll say, "This is horrible!"

I hear you have a car fetish. What's your pride and joy?
I never really drive cars, partially because, in this era of ecological insanity, I'm torn. But I have my eye on the Mercedes Benz CL600. It’s sexy.

On top of the drums, "When the Moon" features a heavy conga groove. Why?
Well it’s more of a Marching Band Drum, but we wanted it to sound different from any other drum out there on mid tempos. It gave the song a totally different sound.

What do you enjoy the most? Studio or Touring?
Well this time around I’m enjoying the studio a lot more, because I have learned a lot during the recording of “Vertigo”. The process is really relaxed and laid back. There is no tension. But there is something about performing live, like I can’t wait to perform live even with the small intimate groups that I’m playing tonight here in L.A. the band supports me 1000 Percent. I can’t do it without them. So overall I’d say 50/50.

So who has influenced your records?
Well definitely, vocally, I would have to day Marvin Winans. Brandy, Shania Twain, CoKo, Sting, U2, Coldplay and Stevie Wonder influence my records through and through. I try to be unique so that I can have something to offer the industry. But they do give a huge influence. So many artists do though.

What major labels are you interested in merging your independent label with?
Well definitely, I think that Capitol, Atlantic, Sony or would be great for what I want to do. I am working with a great team of people that are getting me meetings with some majors.

So who would you like to work with in the near future?
I’d like to definitely work with Brandy, Shania Twain and Jay-Z, most definitely, Sting and Bono.

In conclusion, as I listen to your record you seem to have created some gems, I love the country inspired, “When she walked by”, the sexy lead single, Addicted” and the deep, “Frozen”, what was your favorite record?

I love all of the songs. They are like my kids, but I think that “Frozen” speaks to the truth about love. We are all afraid of love and need to be taught how to love in a safe place. A close second is No One. I think that’s a song that a lot of people can relate too.

Well enjoy what is left of your trip to L.A. We love the sound out here.

Thanks and I appreciate the love.-
