ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS - In September 1991 D.L. Shiloh lay in a Chicago hospital with meningitis. He had a near death experience, and survived the ordeal. He returned home to begin writing what would be his first novel, "Pookoo."
"It was a crisis point in my life, with divorce and money problems and then this health ordeal," Shiloh said. "It was a real wake up call that shook me to my core and changed my life."
In the novel, an athlete named Katlin Hillmacher experiences a series of NDEs - near death experiences and gains what Shiloh calls "a faux religious following. There are a lot of false-Christ aspects that one might be interested in reading. He behaves badly. We see a lot of that in celebrity culture now."
