Restaurant supply company partners with EcoPure ™ to develop next generation biodegradable cutlery

Seattle Restaurant Supply company, RTG Custom Supply, takes the term "biodegradable" to the next level by introducing more user-friendly biodegradable disposable cutlery and serving ware for food service industry.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 14, 2009 - Seattle, WA -- Today everyone is a little more aware of the impact each of us has on our environment and most people will do “what’s right” if given the opportunity.   Take a look at something so common most people come in contact with it almost every day -- plastic forks, spoons, knives and don’t forget the “spork”.  Fast food restaurants, airports, cafeterias, and just about any place to grab a bite to eat away from home will have disposable plastic cutlery.  Fortunately, many companies are switching to biodegradable cutlery to try and minimize the impact of thousands of pounds of garbage going into a landfill every day.

The problem, however, is that contrary to popular opinion, most biodegradable plastic won’t break down in a landfill.  Yet because plastic cutlery is intended to be disposable, almost all if it ends up in the garbage.

This is where Seattle-based company, RTG Custom Supply, enters the picture.  RTG Custom Supply founder, Randy Bennett owned the largest restaurant delivery service in Seattle and worked hard to meet the demands of his customers in supplying biodegradable cutlery.  He tried the corn-based or potato-based cutlery and, like his customers, he felt a little better thinking that their plastic forks will biodegrade back to the earth.   “We were surprised to learn that the biodegradable product we were buying had to be taken to a commercial composting facility to biodegrade” said Randy.   “That would be fine,” he added, “but estimates are that 95% of plastic cutlery ends up in the trash and it simply won’t biodegrade when it gets to a landfill”.

Frustrated with the products available, his new company, RTG Custom Supply, partnered with EcoPure™ and created a solution called Transitions ™ SuperDegradable™ cutlery.   EcoPure ™ is a blend of organic material  that is added to the plastic when the forks, knives, spoons, etc. are being produced that allows the microbes  found in a landfill to attack  and digest the polymer structure of the plastic and break it down into pure bio-solids and bio-gases.

In simple terms, Bennett explained, RTG Custom is the only company using EcoPure ™ to target the 95% of disposable cutlery that ends up in the garbage so customers do not have to change their disposal methods and can still help the environment.
