Jay Dill of Jacksonville today officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives, District 40 previously held by Rep. Lea Fite. The Special Election Primary will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010.
Mr. Dill believes we need to move Alabama in a new direction. “We can no longer accept politics as usual,” he said. “The Democrat Party has controlled the Alabama Senate and House for 135 years. If ever there was a time to reverse course in Alabama, it is now,” Mr. Dill added.
“I am not a political insider or someone who just wants to be in elected to something. My true desire is to do exactly what the title of this office describes – represent,” Jay Dill said. “Right now we need to elect someone who is a problem solver and a true citizen lawmaker, and I am that person,” he continued. Mr. Dill also mentioned that he would make jobs, economic development, ethics reform, and improving education the centerpieces of his campaign and his service once elected.
Jay Dill is married to his wife, Phyllis Miller, of 23 years. Their son, Sonny, is a recent graduate of Jacksonville High School and is currently a freshman in college. Jay Dill works at Miller’s Office Furniture and Steel in Anniston. Mr. Dill is active in numerous community organizations. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Greater Alabama Boy Scouts of America and Chairman of the Eagle Board. He has been the Concert Night Manager of the Knox Concert Series for over 29 years and also previously served as Treasurer of the Calhoun County JSU Alumni Association. Jay and Phyllis attend First Presbyterian Church where he is an elder. He is involved locally with the Jacksonville Tree Commission and the Jacksonville A.C.E. Program Infrastructure Committee.
