On Tuesday, November 17, government, business, and philanthropic sector leaders from around the Bay Area and California will converge on the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, taking the day to collaborate and explore the bottom-line business issues in community disaster preparedness.
Community resilience is everybody's business. Up to 40% of small and non-profit businesses close immediately following a regional disaster. Commerce and supply chain is affected by damage to infrastructure, loss of essential civic services, and the upheaval of employees’ lives and well-being. For the business community supporting community disaster resilience is a bottom-line business imperative as well as a matter of socially responsible business practice. The Business of Community Resilience Forum will address the changing landscape of disaster response and the newly developing role that the private sector – business, non-profit, and philanthropy – is expected to take in community disaster response and recovery.
Stephen Jordan of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership Center will kick off the event discussing how supporting community disaster response is a matter of socially responsible business practice. The day will feature a series of interactive panels and open discussions led by Keith Thode – COO of AidMatrix, Peter Ohtaki - Director of the California Resiliency Alliance, and other leaders in the area of private – public sector integration in response to emergency.
