Aeropost International Services today announced the launch of Aeropost Brazil, a joint venture with Brazilian-based General Express and Pegassus. Aeropost provides its customers with a physical address in Miami, which customers use to receive packages and mail from merchants in the United States. Aeropost then consolidates shipments, manages transportation, customs clearance and local delivery in the customer’s country. Aeropost Brazil began providing service November 2, 2009.
Based in Campinas, Great Sao Paolo, General Express will manage the joint venture and be responsible for administration and marketing of the business. The company successfully managed the launch of UPS commercial service in Brazil and is currently one of UPS’s largest export accounts. General Express also operates its own local courier service and resells FedEx and DHL services. Also based in Campinas, Pegassus is among Brazil’s leading logistics companies with operations in Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro and other major cities in Brazil.
“Brazil is a tremendous market with a very unique set of requirements for importing products. We’ve assembled a team with local expertise and a proven record on both the importation and local delivery sides,” say James Fendell, Aeropost’s President and CEO.
The management team will be comprised of key executives from Aeropost, General Express, and Pegassus. Members of the team include: James Fendell, Aeropost, President and CEO; Dino Nasi, Aeropost Vice President Market Development, Rafael Simoni: General Express, Commercial Director; Pedro Oberg: General Express, Finance Director; and Olavo Dosantos, President of Pegasus Logistics Group.
With a population of nearly 200 million that accounts for roughly 40% of all ecommerce spending in Latin America, Brazil is a key world market. According to Dino Nasi, “since we have local presence across Brazil, we can provide tremendous market intelligence. In combination with our customs expertise, innovative payment solutions and, of course, a proven shipping and delivery platform through General Express, this venture will make cross-border ecommerce into Brazil realistic for both merchants and consumers.”
