ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS - As if like a man possessed, D.L. Shiloh minds his bedtime during the week. He wakes around 5 a.m., starts coffee and fires up an iTunes or 8tracks.com mix - usually instrumental such as Vangelis or Kevin McLeod or themed music from the 70s. Then he begins to think of 9-11.
Members of his inner circle have begun to ask to see pages, but so far D.L. Shiloh has been tight-lipped about his plot and its characters for his in-progress novel "Waiting for the End."
"You have to do that, to own it for a while, so you can let go of it one day," Shiloh said. "You live with it, day in and day out, and immerse yourself into it. It's a hell of a thing to think about every day. But it's a case where the story found me."
How is this story different than his 2008 satire "Pookoo", which made the Amazon.com charts?
"This is already different because in just six months, it's at 52,000 words," Shiloh related. "I was just hoping for 40,000. So Goal # 1 was met. I spent 17 years working on "Pookoo" - I hope I learned something The second difference is that except for two days of writing blues lyrics, I've totally focused my thought and energy to the novel. Third, it's quieter in ways than "Pookoo" but that's deceptive."
