SAN DIEGO—One of the economic downturn’s dirty little secrets is that its true underlying cause lies in the insatiable thirst for more and more power and wealth that drives most businesspeople. The new book by longtime corporate CEO Robert E. Draper, "The Other Side of Success … and all its empty promises" ($19.95/iUniverse/
"The Other Side of Success" examines business and success, not from the customary viewpoint of getting ahead, but from the perspective of how to grow in strength and certitude through any situation. Drawing on colorful anecdotes from Mr. Draper’s rags-to-riches rise to the CEO’s chair, "The Other Side of Success" offers sound, no-nonsense advice for navigating corporate culture while describing a new way of thinking that can be applied to all areas of life.
“'The Other Side of Success' grew out of a conviction that my own disappointment with material success was not unique,” says Robert Draper. “The recent global economic recession only highlights the unreliability of seeking contentment through mere gain in the marketplace and further demonstrates that people can’t rely on external circumstances to make them happy.”
About the Author
Robert Draper went from growing up in a tough, impoverished Bronx neighborhood to the position of CEO of a NYSE company by the age of 35. Soon after, with enough money and power to have just about anything he wanted, he realized none of it was bringing him real satisfaction. Prompted by this deepening disappointment, Draper turned to the lessons of the world’s greatest philosophers, searching for true fulfillment while remaining in the CEO’s position for over two decades. Now retired from the corporate world and living in La Jolla, California, Draper continues to lecture, encouraging students to find real success through reclaiming their power to choose their own way in any circumstance.
