The show's James Reynolds ("Abe Carver"), a former U.S. Marine, war veteran and national spokesperson for the Veterans Association calls the experience "extremely important,. Especially on Veteran’s Day it is important that we take the time to honor those who have volunteered to serve, many who were very young and have committed their lives to this country. So, for us to take a few moments to visit these men and women, and tell them how much we honor their service and understand our obligation to help them, was the least we could do.”
Nadia Bjorlin ("Chloe Lane"), Shawn Christian ("Dr. Daniel Jonas") and Bryan Dattilo ("Lucas Roberts") were also on hand to meet and visit with the residents and staff at the community living wing of the hospital.
Starting with the visit to the Dingell V.A. Hospital on Veterans Day, cast members participated in Veteran’s Day celebrations at the Detroit Piston’s game, toured The Motown Museum and enjoyed a performance by the city’s own youth ambassadors, Mosaic Singers. The cast spent half a day at Genesis House III, the Detroit Rescue Mission shelter, helping unload food donations, distributing scarves and books and providing the residents with bedroom "makeovers."
