Nov. 11, 2009 - PRLog -- Fort Walton Beach, Fl., —Independent Henry Kelley has announced his candidacy for Florida’s District One seat in the United States House of Representatives following a month of meeting with voters and answering their call for new leadership.  Kelley will speak this Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Day Rally at the Fort Walton Beach Fairgrounds and discuss the local impact of “Cap and Trade,” also known as HR 2454 and the Waxman Bill.

An Emerald Coast native, Kelley attended elementary through high school in Fort Walton Beach and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s in History.  He also earned an MBA from the top-ranked Rollins College in Orlando in addition to serving in the US Army as a Field Artillery Officer, receiving a Bronze Star during Operation Desert Storm. Kelley has also worked for several Fortune 500 companies and currently teaches business courses for the University of Phoenix Online.

As an independent, Kelley must gather 4300 signatures by March 1, 2010, to be added to the ballot.   "I'm running as a non-party affiliated candidate so I can listen to all the voters in District One, and not be limited by party line votes.  I have been out at the fairs, town halls and civic group meetings listening to voters and their problems with the economy and the failure of current politicians to solve these problems.  I will represent the voters of NWF.  I am from here, and my family and friends live here.  This local experience means I will stay focused on the problems facing my home region, and not get lost in DC politics".

Kelley considers himself a policy-oriented centrist.  "Like most Americans, I no longer identify my beliefs by party.  I read, study and analyze legislation, and then compare that to a few key principles - constitutionality, spending, taxation, the needs of District One - to determine how I will vote.  Labels cloud the issues; I look for solutions driven from sound policies.”
