Acworth, GA - A rare blend of events including an afternoon playing tennis paired with a refreshing wine tasting will set the stage for a most unique breast cancer fundraising taking place on Sunday, November 22nd from 1- 4PM in Acworth, Georgia.

The Tennis Center at Governors Towne Club (GTC) will be the site of this remarkable combination of events to raise money to fight breast cancer. But perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects about this fundraiser is that 100% of all proceeds raised will be donated to support the important work of the Susan G. Komen For The Cure, Atlanta Affiliate.

Several homeowners at GTC came together and enlisted the help of sponsors T2Tennis and NO Winery to host a Sunday afternoon of mixed doubles and wine tasting all for a great cause. Attendees can select the venue of high activity and colossal fun to play tennis organized by the professionals of T2Tennis. Activities include mixed double round robins, the fastest serve contest where each participant is clocked and a volley and poaching event where players will attempt to win prizes located on the opposite side of the net by hitting them with overheads and volleys from the net.

All prizes and event coordination for the “Tennis For the Cure” have been donated by T2Tennis, Atlanta’s premier flexible tennis league.  This is the third such fundraising event for the league to fight breast cancer and it will be far from the last. T2Tennis Co-founder Joel Ballantyne's passion to find a cure is authentic and real.

Ballantyne knows all too well about the heartache of this dreaded disease: his wife and his sister are both breast cancer survivors. The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimates 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in the year 2009.

The fundraiser includes another option for non-sporting types to participate and raise money to fight breast cancer called “Tasting for the Cure”.  Attendees will enjoy the afternoon tasting the various white wines of NO Winery and learning many interesting facts and subtleties of the various grape varietals and how they positively impact the wines. Kathy Bremer, owner and innovator of NO Winery remarked, "We are so honored to be able to participate in this diverse fundraising effort. What an incredibly fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon that benefits breast cancer victims and survivors who are located right here in Atlanta.”

At 2:00PM, Kenneth G. Horton, developer of Governors Towne Club will officially open the fundraiser, welcome guests and recognize the event sponsors. Congressman and Doctor Phil Gingery be on hand to cut the ribbon to the Silent Auction for bidding. Over 50 valuable products and services have been contributed to the Silent Auction from individuals and companies in the Atlanta area and beyond. Attendees will be able to bid on items ranging from a package of horse riding lessons from Serenbe Stables, to Macintosh Computer Service and Support by 3 Alarm Fire, to a signed autographed racket donated by Melanie Oudin, the 17 year old tennis star from Marietta who became world famous in this year's US Open. Additionally, the Silent Auction will include items in all price ranges from gift certificates from The Saving Gallery, La Parrilla Mexican Restaurants, and Abundance Luxury Limo to the use of an upscale vacation cottage in Destin, Fl, for a week’s stay.  Perhaps, one of the most unique donations that will be up for auction is “A Day with Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood”, including a private reception at Gallery 4463 and a dinner party at The Old Mill. Mayor Allegood will be on hand to announce all the winners of the Silent Auction at 4:00PM and award commemorative bag tags to volunteers who exceeded their donation and attendance goals for the event.

"I have never heard of a fundraiser which combined playing tennis and a wine tasting all at the same event. It sounds like a very interesting way to spend a Sunday afternoon and at the same time raise money for a great cause. I knew immediately I wanted to be involved " said David LaMarca, President of 3 Alarm Fire.

Everyone who attends the event will receive a “Goodie Bag”, a pink Susan G. Komen For The Cure environmentally friendly grocery bag provided by Kroger, filled with various items donated by T2Tennis and other donors. The gift bags will be handed out by two Mrs. Georgia titleholders of various years who both just happen to be homeowners at Governors Towne Club. Mrs. Amanda Vogel is the former Miss Georgia USA 1985-86 and Mrs. Georgia America 2005-2006, and the current reining Mrs. Georgia for 2009 - 2010, Mrs. Jennifer Everett.

The cost to attend includes lunch catered by La Parilla, door prizes, access to in the wine tasting, and a “Goodie Bag” gift bag.

Participating in the fundraiser cost $40 per person to play tennis or $30 per person to attend only the wine tasting. The event’s website can be found at http://www.TennisForTheCure.com for more information and a form which can be printed and mailed to attend the event. The deadline for registration is November 18th. A rain date has been set for Sunday, December 6th.
