Nov. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- Marietta, GA.   Cobb Christmas, Inc. works to minimize the effects of what will likely be the most challenging holiday season in two decades by giving back on The Night Before Cobb Christmas (TNBCC), Thursday, December 17th, a benefit dedicated to raising funds to provide holiday food and gifts for Cobb County’s low-income families.

The Night Before Cobb Christmas is an event that will bridge the financial gap between corporate and community donations by providing attendees with a first-time behind the scenes look at the complexities of the Cobb Christmas distribution site as it prepares for delivery to client families. During the event, adult guests will tour the Cobb County distribution center and enjoy a casual supper, entertainment and a silent auction, which will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road in Marietta.  Tickets are $50 ($25 tax deductible) and can be purchased by visiting: http://www.cobbchristmas.net/nightbefore.html.

Cobb Commission Chair Sam Olens, Marietta Mayor William B. “Bill” Dunaway, Marietta Mayor-Elect Steve “Thunder” Tumlin, Transit Division Manager Rebecca Gutowsky and area business leaders are members of the host committee and will be in attendance.

Event sponsors are Cobb EMC, The Georgian Club, Wharton Management, Inc., Marietta X-Ray, Inc., Surgical Operational Services, Inc., IST Management, and Delta Community Credit Union.

Cobb Christmas is also generously supported by the Bennett-Thrasher Foundation.

“The Night Before Cobb Christmas is working to create positive holiday memories for the low-income families and children in Cobb County.  During these extremely challenging economic times, we at Cobb Christmas look to those individuals and organizations who can give just a little bit more to assist families in need,” said Jason Waters, Cobb Christmas Board Chair.  “This event is a first for our organization.  We are inviting our supporters to see their contributions in motion.  From the moment their donations reach one of our affiliates or Stuff-A-Bus locations, the wheels begin moving toward our distribution site and fulfilling Christmas wishes for Cobb County children.

About Cobb Christmas:
Cobb Christmas, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), all-volunteer organization founded in 1963 by The Center for Family Resources (then known as the Cobb County Emergency Aid Association, Inc.) to assist the low-income and working poor families of Cobb County at Christmas time. The early years were made possible through community involvement from groups like the American Legion, the Cobb Jaycees and the United Way of Cobb County. Eventually the Christmas program branched out on its own in 1978 and incorporated in 1980. Since its founding, Cobb Christmas, a non-denominational organization has provided gifts of food and new toys to tens of thousands of disadvantaged children in Cobb County.

Each December, Cobb Christmas reserves one week at Cobb County’s Jim Miller Park to conduct its annual holiday assistance program. To qualify, families must be residents of Cobb County, meet low income requirements, and have dependent children eighteen years or younger living in the household.  Client families register in October and November.  Qualifying families are provided with an appointment time during mid-December to come and pick-up their gifts and food.

Hundreds of volunteers participate and help to sort food, stuff stockings, select toys and pack gifts.  Each registered client family receives at least one box of food and each child in the family receives four new gifts of toys and a filled Christmas stocking.  To maximize significantly limited resources, Cobb Christmas coordinates with other county-wide holiday assistance programs to ensure that there is no duplication of services among the client population.
