Ladera, CA, USA - Brazil wins another major enhancement to their extensive calendar of the 2009 - 2010 season. The Boards of Minas/Vivo and BMG have confirmed the signing of American pointer, Riley Salmon, 33, member of the US volleyball men’s team and world and Olympic gold-medal champion in 2008.
Riley was born in Amarillo, Texas, on July 2, 1976, and played in Greece and Olympiakos (2004/05), Turkey and Izmir (2005/06), and Poland and Czetehova (2006/07). In Italy he played two seasons (2006/07 and 2007/08), in Latina and in Treviso.
Often referred to by his teammates as The Grinder, Riley has harnessed and perfected the art of training to be an elite player. “I’m psyched about playing for Brazil. They are a strong team of world-class players. I look forward to joining them soon,” said Salmon.
2008 International Highlights
Riley helped the U.S. Men win the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He finished 14th among all scorers with 83 points on 771 kills, eight blocks and four aces. He also helped the U.S. Men win their first FIVB World League title. Was the team's third-leading scorer, eighth overall, in the final round with 39 points on 36 kills, two blocks and one ace. Riley helped the U.S. Men win the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier in Caguas, Puerto Rico and qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games. Riley finished the tournament with 39 points on 33 kills, five blocks and one ace. He was credited with 72 receptions.
