Nov. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- CIG has learned that the U.S president, this week announced that if the Copenhagen climate talks are nearing a framework deal, that he would be prepared to make the trip if his presence there would make a difference in clinching it.

"If I am confident that all of the countries involved are bargaining in good faith and we are on the brink of a meaningful agreement and my presence in Copenhagen will make a difference in tipping us over edge then certainly that's something that I will do," Obama is quoted as saying by a major news source known to CIG.

The President, who is facing strong resistance from Republicans and some powerful fellow Democrats on a proposed cap and trade bill recognized that that the was no chance of the Senate passing climate change legislation before the December Copenhagen talks deadline.

The U.S who pulled out of the Kyoto Protocol in 2001 has not been held in a positive light by its European counterparts due to its ongoing delays in policy and its uncompromising stance on financial responsibility to developing nations for the management of the effects of climate change, but Obama claimed that he remained positive that Copenhagen could reach a framework agreement.

"I think the question is can we create a set of principles, building blocks, that allow for ongoing and continuing progress on the issue and that's something I'm confident we can achieve," CIG believes he was quoted as saying.
