Bristol Buddies launched last November as a place to make new friends in the city. The website was aimed at people new to the area, however, the free sign up and friendly forum soon attracted close to 800 members, several of which having always lived in Bristol.
Back in February 2009, website member Liam suggested an ‘end of month meet’ in his local The Boca Bar, 9 people turned up including Bristol Buddies founders Kerry Hale and Chris Shepherd. Eight months later, the October end of month meet saw a turnout of approximately 60 people in the upstairs of Yia Mass.
Felicia Severns moved to Bristol last year has been a Bristol Buddies member since April 2009. She says “I’ve had some great nights out with the Bristol Buddies crowd, they have a great mixture of people, and I always look forward to the end of month meets”.
Kerry and Chris have decided to arrange more regular nights out for their members, which get people out and about in Bristol and are already in the process of organising a weekly pub quiz. Members also arrange or suggest their own nights out as well as inform people of other goings on in the city.
Founder Kerry Hale said “we are thrilled with how Bristol Buddies has developed into a complete social networking site for Bristol. There really is something for everyone, although we try and encourage people offline, we are also happy that Bristolians can spend time simply browsing the website; it was always our mission to connect the people of Bristol both on and offline”
