To show how easy it is to be positive and creative in difficult times, Alice Shapiro, owner of Poet's Tongue says, "Reading, and especially performing poetry can lift your spirits, channel frustration, anger and hopelessness into creative outlets, and improve your public speaking and confidence skills -- something of a plus for job interviews."
In addition to serving the novice poet, Shapiro believes “This Poetry Karaoke program is also of value for families to share thoughts and feelings, learn more about each other, improve interpersonal relationships, and enjoy entertainment alternatives to excessive computer and X-Box use.” But she hasn't entirely thrown the baby out with the bath water. Customers who purchase a Poetry Karaoke Home Event Guide ($99.00) for home parties or a Venue Event Guide ($199.00) for more advanced community performances, are eligible to enter the 2010 Poet's Tongue Video Competition to win $500. The program, as well as competition guidelines can be found at her website page http://aliceshapiro.com/
Shapiro's first collection of poems Cracked: Timeless Topics of Nature, Courage and Endurance was released this year by TotalRecall Press. She is being nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize. Also a playwright, Shapiro won the Bill C. Davis Drama Award for a one-act verse play (Four Voices) and will be releasing two new books in 2010. Poet's Tongue has brought poet and educator Linda Hohenberger on board to provide youth poetry/performance workshops. Shapiro has lived in Georgia since 2005.
