Thirty-three year old Avi, originally from Johannesburg, re-wrote the rulebook for diagnosing alcohol and drug dependency when he launched Trimega Laboratories in London in 2005 with the world’s first Hair Alcohol Testing service. Now with offices in South Africa and Germany as well as the UK, Trimega’s substance misuse testing is commercially viable in a wide range of applications across the globe. In 2008, through a joint venture - Trimega Diagnostics PTY Limited - he launched the DrugAlyzer™ along with the results of South Africa’s first ever drug-driving survey. The project was run in partnership with The Department of Community Safety & Traffic Law Enforcement and has further led to substance misuse products being trialled among South Africa’s biggest employers.
Open to organisations of all sizes from all sectors, The National Business Awards is the UK’s most prestigious business recognition platform, with particular emphasis on ethical business as well as innovation and success. Finalists for ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2009’ also include Dale Vince of Ecotricity, Dr Lalvani of Vitabiotics and Jeff Gunn of Bright Ideas Global. The winner will be unveiled at a glittering gala award ceremony on 10th November at the Grosvenor House hotel in London where guest speakers include Alistair Darling, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
