They served our country selflessly and now they’re homeless…but not forgotten. On Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 at 11 a.m., (11/11 at 11), those who have served our country in the military and are now residing at the one of the nation’s most populated homeless facilities, the Union Rescue Mission (URM) in downtown LA, will be treated to a multi-course lunch by Daily Grill. The restaurant’s Executive Chef John Sola will prepare mixed green salad, meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, penne pasta with rock shrimp and cinnamon glazed carrots at the Veterans Day lunch. He will cap off the meal with a fresh baked apple/peach cobbler and children from the URM will help put the finishing touches on the dessert and serve it to the veterans with help from volunteers of the Daily Grill’s 11 Southern California restaurants.
Daily Grill President and CEO Philip Gay will use the opportunity to announce that a portion of sales of its best-selling cobbler at all So Cal locations through the end of the year will be donated to the URM.
“When we learned that many of those served by URM’s clientele are veterans, we just knew we had to do something special for them,” said Gay. “So this Veteran’s Day, we salute these heroes who now find themselves in a dire predicament. We want them to know that we care about them, appreciate their service and dedication to our country. We hope that our fundraising program will resonate with the dining public and we can raise some serious dollars for the URM.”
