FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov 09, 2009 -
Newark, DE: Calling all dogs this side of the Delmarva Peninsula! Camp Bow Wow is coming to northern Delaware. The upscale digs for dogs, located just off of I-95 between Christiana Hospital and the University of Delaware, will open its doors to canine campers on Thursday, November 12. Now local dogs can socialize the day away at the country’s premier upscale Doggy Day and Overnight camp while their parents are working, running errands, or out-of-town. Camp Bow Wow’s all-day play format gives pups the freedom to interact with Camp counselors and other dogs throughout the day. They can socialize, get playful with the pack, find a quiet place to curl up or play in fenced outdoor areas equipped with doggy playground equipment and shade structures.

Co-owners and Top Dogs Laurie Williams and John Lewis designed the 10,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Camp with amenities guaranteed to get tails wagging. The Camp has four large climate-controlled indoor play areas with adjoining outdoor play areas, giving campers the ability to roam inside or outside whenever they choose. All campers will join one of 4 different playgroups – Noses Sniffn’; Ears Twitchin’; Paws Movin’ or Tails Waggin’ according to their temperament and activity level. A Small Lounge provides a quiet area for older dogs, those recuperating or those that just seem to want to relax a while. The Camp also has a large multipurpose area that may be used to host birthday parties or as an additional place for campers to play.

“Like most dogs, our campers love to play,” said Williams. “Most dogs dive right into the fun of group play, and our counselors are there to help those who are more hesitant adjust to the fun. The complimentary Meet-‘n-Greet day provides each Camper an opportunity to get to know the Counselors and other dogs at their own pace.”

Interested puppy parents can look in on the activities in the play yards by logging on to the Camp’s website to view the real-time footage broadcast by the nine Camper Cams® cameras mounted throughout the play yards. Inside the log cabin-style lobby there’s a re-tail shop with the latest looks in leashes and collars, and Waggies, natural puppy treats. Waggies by Maggie & Friends are lovingly baked in Wilmington, DE, by a group of persons with intellectual disabilities. Camp Bow Wow – Delaware North will also be working with the Delaware Humane Organization to foster and adopt out dogs.

After a full day of play, day campers head home for the evening tired and ready to relax. Overnight campers retire to one of the Camp’s 50 spacious, private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and a rest. All cabins are furnished with comfy cots and soft fleece blankets and are large enough to accommodate two or three pups from the same family if their guardian would like them to stay together. The pups also enjoy special Campfire Treats before bedtime. Camp Bow Wow’s fees are all inclusive; overnight rates include all day fun.

All campers at Camp Bow Wow are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR, first aid, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety/health management and, of course, cleaning procedures.  There will be at least 1 counselor at Camp for every 15 campers during play times. For the safety and security of all campers, new arrivals are required to participate in a free Meet-‘n-Greet day, before they attend camp.  Canine campers must be on flea and tick preventative; at least four-months old; spayed or neutered if six months or older; up-to-date on their Rabies and Distemper vaccinations; have had a Bordetella (canine cough) vaccination within the last six months; and be in general good health and of sound temperament.  We offer Home Buddies to care for any dog that does not meet these guidelines and any other family pets.

Williams and Lewis, both residents of Newark, hold the distinction of opening the first Home Buddies by Camp Bow Wow® in the country. Home Buddies is a new service providing in-home care for all kinds of pets. “Home Buddies allows us to offer a choice of service to our customers that isn’t readily available,” continued Lewis. “Whether at home or at Camp, they can leave their pets with the assurance that we’ll care for them as if they are our own. And if they’d like, we can install one of our popular Home Buddies CamsTM, similar to our Camper Cams®, in their home so they can watch real-time footage of their family’s shenanigans while they’re gone.”  From basic dog walking to overnights and administering routine injections to diabetic or allergic pets, Home Buddies by Camp Bow Wow® provides a menu of services so clients can tailor care to meet their family’s needs.

Joel Silverman, host of Animal Planet’s, “GOOD DOG U” and his faithful co-star Foster will make a personal appearance at Camp Bow Wow Delaware North on Wednesday, November 18th at 7 pm. The duo is currently on a 90-city tour to promote Silverman’s new book, What Color is Your Dog? Silverman will conduct a 1-hour seminar focusing on the philosophy behind his successful career as an animal trainer, answer questions and sign copies of his book. Foster will assist him in demonstrations.  Please bring a pet product donation, that the Delaware Humane can distributed to pet owners having a challenging time, for admission to the seminar and book signing .  “The public is invited to attend, but as much as we love dogs,” said Williams, “please do not bring them to meet Joel Silverman.”

“We can’t think of anything more appropriate than to host Joel and Foster as our first official Camp event,” said Williams. “I, for one, can’t wait to attend his seminar. Joel’s philosophy about the importance of getting to know a dog’s personality and building a relationship with each pup in a way that they can relate to is completely compatible to our approach to the campers attending Camp Bow Wow. He’s got so much valuable insight to share.” Silverman, who is best known as host of Animal Planet’s long-running program “GOOD DOG U”, has trained and performed with different species of animals for over 35 years. In February, Silverman was presented with the 2008 Dog Trainer of the Year Award in New York City at the Purina Pro Plan Our Hero Dog Water 54th Annual Show Dogs of the Year Dinner.
