Nov. 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Cherry Hill, NJ: Calling all dogs! It’s time to set your internal GPS for the best route to Camp Bow Wow in Cherry Hill, NJ. Conveniently located near the crossroads of route 70 and Springdale Road, the upscale domain for dogs at 3 Esterbrook Lane, Suite 250, will open its doors to canine campers on November 13. Now hounds can socialize the day away at the city’s premier upscale Doggy Day and Overnight camp while their parents are at work, enjoying a local festival, or out-of-town on vacation. With the freedom to interact with Camp counselors and other dogs throughout the day, pups can socialize, get playful with the pack, find a quiet place to curl up or play in fenced outdoor areas equipped with doggy playground equipment and shade structures.

Camp owners and Top Dogs, Michelle Bryson-Rivers and Heidi Duffy designed the 9,800 square-foot, state-of-the-art Camp with a rustic environment and amenities that get tails wagging. The Camp has four large climate-controlled indoor play areas that open to three adjoining outdoor areas allowing pups to roam inside or outside when they choose. “All-day play is only one of the things that differentiate Camp Bow Wow from other boarding facilities,” said Bryson-Rivers. “Dogs are social animals. They really seem to thrive in the Camp environment, which is designed to give them the freedom to interact with others and make decisions about where and with whom they’d like to play.”

All campers are assigned to play areas according to their size and temperament. “Every dog has a unique personality,” continued Duffy. “Some do very well in a group environment while others don’t. And because they’re of all ages and sizes, they also have very different energy levels. The complimentary interview day gives us a chance to get to know each camper and how he or she responds in a group situation.” Interested puppy parents can look in on the activities in the play yards by logging on to the Camp’s website to view the real-time footage broadcast by the many Camper Cams® cameras mounted throughout the play yards. Inside the log cabin-style lobby, there’s a re-tail shop with the latest looks in leashes and collars. The Camp will also offer grooming services and plans to add training classes in the future. Camp Bow Wow Cherry Hill will be working with local humane organizations to foster and adopt out dogs.

After a full day of play, day campers head home for the evening tired and ready to relax. Overnight campers retire to one of the Camp’s 45 spacious, private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and a rest. Over the next few months, they will expand to 72 cabins. All cabins are furnished with comfy cots and soft fleece blankets and are large enough to accommodate two pups from the same family if their guardian wants them to stay together. The pups also enjoy a special Campfire Treat before bedtime. To avoid upset stomachs, parents of overnight campers are encouraged to bring their pup’s food from home. Camp Bow Wow’s fees are all inclusive.

Duffy, a manager at a pharmaceutical company with a degree in veterinary sciences, was bemoaning the lack of a really good boarding facility for her Great Dane when a friend mentioned Camp Bow Wow in Lawrenceville. Not long afterward, her dog was scheduled for her own interview. Ready for a change in her own life, Duffy began researching the possibilities of opening a Camp Bow Wow of her own. When she realized that a good partner would be essential, she asked Bryson-Rivers, a long-time friend and fellow animal lover, to join her venture. Bryson-Rivers trained in animal science and worked as a vet tech before forming a recruitment firm that specializes in Clinical Research and Medical Affairs with her sisters. The partners feel they make a great match – bringing complimentary skill sets to the business.

All campers at Camp Bow Wow are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR, first aid, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety and health management. The camp will be staffed with 1 counselor for every 15 campers at all times. For the safety and security of all campers, new arrivals are required to participate in a free interview day before they can attend camp on a regular basis. Canine campers must be on flea and tick preventative; at least four-months old; spayed or neutered if six months or older; up-to-date on their Rabies and Distemper vaccinations; have had a Bordetella (canine cough) vaccination within the last six months; and be in general good health and of sound temperament.

Joel Silverman, host of Animal Planet’s, “GOOD DOG U” and his faithful co-star Foster, will make a personal appearance at Camp Bow Wow® Cherry Hill on Tuesday, November 17th at 7 pm. The duo is currently on a 90-city tour to promote Silverman’s new book, What Color is Your Dog? Silverman will conduct a 1-hour seminar focusing on the philosophy behind his successful career as an animal trainer, answer questions and sign copies of his book. Foster will assist him in demonstrations. Admission to the seminar and book signing is free and the public is invited to attend.

“We can’t think of anything more appropriate than to host Joel and Foster as our first official Camp event,” said Duffy. “We can’t wait to attend his seminar. Joel’s philosophy about the importance of getting to know a dog’s personality and building a relationship with each pup in a way that they can relate to is completely compatible to our approach to the campers attending Camp Bow Wow®. He’s got so much valuable insight to share.” Silverman who is best known as host of Animal Planet’s long-running program “GOOD DOG U” has trained and performed with different species of animals for over 35 years. In February, Silverman was presented with the 2008 Dog Trainer of the Year Award in New York City at the Purina Pro Plan Our Hero Dog Water 54th Annual Show Dogs of the Year Dinner.
