FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Nov 08, 2009 – San Diego, CA - San Diego’s professional indoor soccer team, the San Diego Sockers, delivered a victory to an enthusiastic home crowd tonight, defeating the Stars of Mexico team 9-5. The win marked the return of the ten-time championship Sockers team to San Diego.

The Sockers never trailed in its action-packed game against the Stars of Mexico, at the team’s home in the newly renovated Del Mar Arena, located at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

With the first and last goals of the game scored by Miguel “Chiky” Luna, the seven other Sockers points were scored by Paul Wright, Aaron Susi, Anthony Medina, Kraig Chiles, Dan Antoniuk, Scott Martin, and Tim Roty.

Geared up in white, the Stars of Mexico players kept the game close, tying at 5-5 shortly after halftime. While the Stars of Mexico scoring stalled, the Sockers gained a four-point lead to secure the victory in the second half.

Stars of Mexico player, Luis Hernandez, was ejected from the game in the fourth period after getting tangled up with and allegedly kicking Sockers star Medina.

With just over two-minutes remaining in the game, Stars of Mexico player, Guadalupe “El Lupillo” Castaneda injured his back while attempting to head the ball, and was escorted to the hospital in an ambulance. Reports later indicated a spinal cord contusion, with a positive prognosis. The Sockers will keep fans updated as more news on Castaneda’s condition becomes available.

As Part of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL), the San Diego Sockers will host 11 more home games this season at the Del Mar Arena.
