Shauna Libby and Sejal Thaker, Miss and Teen Ventura County International 2010 were excited to participate in the 9th Annual Civil War Reenactment. This year’s event, titled “Grant Takes Command,” recreated five major battles from April to June 1864. This series of battles, led by Ulysses S. Grant, literally turned the tide for the Union and set up the end of the war.
Wilderness I & II, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and Sayler’s Creek were be re-enacted. The dusk battle of Cold Harbor showcased brilliant cannon bursts and musket fire along with ground pyrotechnics for a breathtaking visual show.
They were also excited to meet Abraham Lincoln and hear him deliver his famous Gettysburg Address.
To celebrate Veterans Day, a special ceremony occured after the first battle today to honor American veterans.
The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Moorpark for community recreation, education, and fund-raising for local organizations and charities. Major sponsors are Time Warner Cable, KHAY, Ventura County Star and the Acorn.
