Golf has been a part of my life since a little kid sitting in the golf cart passenger seat while my dad played a round with some business clients. Over the years, I practiced my swing on local courses with friends, played in different states with my dad and even got a high school job at a country club. Through college, I didn’t golf to much past visiting the municipal course next to campus a couple times in the dead of Arizona summer. Then I moved over towards the ocean and started to pick it back up again at the driving range. Since I have only had a few opportunities to play a round, which is a good thing since my game is all out of whack now. Well, I shouldn’t say that exactly because I have been playing digital rounds on some of the best courses the world has to offer thanks to my video game console.
My first real system that sold me on the joys of being a gamer was the Playstation, I later evolved to PS2 games, one of my favorite being a little cartoonish arcade title called Hot Shots Golf. This was a great game for its time and I think there are still new installments or at least more recent installments hitting online store shelves but there is a new boss in town when it comes to golfing on the video game console. He goes by the name of Tiger Woods and has done what Madden did for NFL multiplayer games. The Tiger Woods PGA franchise has been in my life since 9th grade and every year it seems to get better and better.
My buddy has the newest version, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 on Xbox 360 and it is spectacular. This franchise has really gotten ridiculously close to making golfing with a controller feel like the real thing. This is especially true for the Wii video game console and the reworked motion activated swing. I don’t have a Wii though but it is just as fun on Xbox 360 video game console.
I remember searching for this title with my friend who decided he needed it. We found an online store called Bolluck Mall who had it and were in business. One of the sweetest parts about Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is the franchise inked out a deal with the Weather Channel so when connected online, all of the courses available mimic the weather happening at the moment there. For instance, if it is rainy and foggy on Pebble Beach that is how it will be on the game. Talk about an advanced video game console golf title. Wow.
