A CD, “big bad slam poet”, by Dave Campbell was released this month at Lulu.com. The CD has a collection of 14 poems written and performed by Campbell, winner of numerous poetry slams and rap battles. Some of the poems are from his recently released book of the same name.
Campbell, who died last year, is known to many people in the Orlando arts community and beyond as the talented poet and hip hop artist called STRAT. He grew up in the Orlando area and refined his poetry and hip hop skills while working at various jobs. Both the CD and the book have insightful poems about relationships and life in general.
Curtis Meyer, a five time participant at the National Poetry Slam, said that “it was as if poetry possessed” Campbell. Campbell “oozed charisma and talent” and “epitomizes spoken word as an art form” according to Meyer.
