Landless houseless Ministers of kashmir

Nov. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, President of PDP Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference party Chief Omar Abdullah neither own a house nor a piece of land in Jammu and Kashmir. In some circles, the trio is nicknamed as "non-resident Jammu Kashmir Wallas".

Patron of National Conference Farooq Abdullah and PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed do have land as well as other properties registered on their name but their children (Mehbooba and Omar) alongwith former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are both landless and homeless.

71 year old Mufti Mohammed Sayeed owns a house at Baba Mohallah in Bijbehara in the outskirts of South Kashmir's Anantnag town. His wife has five diamond sets costing around Rs.7 lakh. Mufti has the ownership of 1 Kanal and 12 Marlas valuing around Rs. 55 lakh. A fixed deposit of Rs. 11, 26, 915-04 is what Mufti has in his bank account.

However, both Azad and Omar in their nomination papers have made a mention of the houses owned by their wives Shamima Azad and Payal Abdullah respectively. Mehbooba Mufti neither owns a house nor has any other movable or immovable property in her name. She is completely landless since she has neither any agricultural nor non-agricultural land and only possesses assets worth Rs. 11, 59000.

Omar Abdullah, whom one has never seen riding a motor cycle or Maruti (Gypsy King) has stated that he owns both. Omar moves around in a Tata Safari but as per the nomination papers of Abdullah, his wife Payal Abdullah who owns a factory at India's top tourist destination Kulla does not have any vehicle to drive.

Payal is also the owner of a flat at West End in New Delhi which is valued at around Rs 1.68 crore apart from the two sharing a joint account which has a balance of Rs 7.03 lakh and also investments of Rs 4.02 lakh each in insurance policies and other national saving schemes. Moreover, Omar who lives in a palatial house owned by his father at Bathindi in the outskirts of Jammu city has total assets amounting to a meager Rs 12.50 lakh.

Omar's wife who owns everything except a luxurious car has assets worth nearly Rs 3.40 crore. Further, Omar had Rs 30,000 cash on the day of submitting the affidavit and his wife had Rs 50,000. The National Conference president has fixed deposits of Rs 1.6 lakh and other deposits of Rs 3.17 lakh, while his wife has Rs 88,549.

Congress Chief Ministerial Candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad who originally hails from Bhalessa in erstwhile district Doda has interestingly no property on his name in his remote village. He has written Jogi Gate, Gujjar Nagar, Jammu as his residential address while the fact is that his brother Ghulam Mustafa Bhat owns a house at Jogi Gate. Bhat was one of the accused in the forest scam that rocked the state earlier this year.

It is important to mention here that when the forest scam rocked the state, Azad who was being accused of having helped his brothers in securing forest contracts denied his proximity with Bhat. He even expressed complete ignorance about the involvement of Bhat in the forest scam and defended his decision of enhancing the rates of extraction and transport of timber.Bhat was leading the contractors association which had been seeking enhancement of the norm rates.

Azad has Rs 1.8 crores six in his bank accounts in four different banks.
His wife owns 350 grams of jewellery worth Rs. 4,02000. Azad's wife has a parental house at Hyderpora Byepass in Srinagar and she owns a flat at one of the posh colonies of New Delhi, New Friends Colony. Azad pays income tax amounting to Rs. 45, 765 which is highest among all the Chief Ministerial candidates of the state.

Homeless and landless Mehbooba Mufti is living alongwith her father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. She has taken a car loan of Rs. 4.30 lakh from HDFC bank's New Delhi branch for Maruti Swift, the only car which Mehbooba claims she owns. She has also paid income tax amounting to Rs. 5,960.
