It follows the Love of the Indian jews from Maharashtra settled in Israel and their love for Marathi, and how they have kept themselves unique as well

7th November, 2009



           Indian Jewish Federation (I J F) a Federation of Jewish Institutions and persons in India had organized a book release function on Thursday, 5th November, 2009 at 6.00 p.m. at I.E.S.’s Pracharya B. N. Vaidya Sabhagraha in Raja Shivaji Vidya Sankul, Hindu Colony, Dadar, Mumbai 400014 for release of the book “Matoshree” in Marathi written by Dr. Vijay Dhavale of Canada as also for release of the book “Maharashtra in Israel” English translation of the book “Israel madhil Maharashtra” in Marathi written by Dr. Vijay Dhavale.



           The book “Matoshree” published by M/s. Navchaitnya Prakashan will be released by Shri Manohar Joshi, M.P. - Ex Speaker of Lok Sabha.



           The book “Maharashtra in Israel” published by Indian Jewish Federation will be released by Ms. Orna Sagiv, Consul General of Israel in Mumbai.



           Dr. Vijay Dhavale - author of the books “Israel madhil Maharashtra” and “Matoshree” - is settled down in Canada for the last 35 years but has retained his love for Marathi and Maharashtra. A Dentist by training and profession Dr. Vijay Dhavale is a successful businessman and Insurance Consultant who has written several books and articles in Marathi, including “Na sapanare Aakash” and “Canadian Bhel” and “Sir Manohar Joshi”.  Dr. Vijay Dhavale was deeply impressed by the love of Indian Jews for Marathi and Maharashtra which they have carried with them to Israel as also about the determination of Jews in establishing their homeland, which prompted him to write the book “Israel madhil Maharashtra” and have it translated into English so that its message can reach all corners of the world and get translated into Hebrew as well.

         

           After the demise of his mother in January 2009, Dr. Vijay Dhavale has written a tribute to her extra ordinary life which is being published under the title “Matoshree”.



           On the occasion of release of these two books, Indian Jewish Federation will be felicitating other authors / translators who have recently published books about the holocaust, including

Dr. Suvarna Baljekar, who has translated “Israel madhil Maharashtra” into English,



Mr. Abhijit Thite, author of “Tejshalaka” (published by M/s. Ameya Prakashan) - Biography in Marathi of Irena Sendler - the lady from Warsaw, Poland who saved the lives of over 2,500 Jewish children during the holocaust by risking her own life,



Ms. Madhuri Purandare, Translator in Marathi of “Hannah’s Suitcase” (published by M/s. Jyotsna Prakashan) a true story of a young Jewish girl and her family in Czechoslovakia during the holocaust which came to light in the year 2000 when her suitcase was discovered in Tokyo.  This book has been translated in 37 languages.



Mrs. Sneha Mahajan who has translated in Marathi “Vishesh Parva” (published by M/s. Srujan Enterprises) - Autobiography of Dr. Felix Zandman, a holocaust survivor from Poland who has established himself as a successful Scientist and Industrialist.  His Company “Vishe Inter Technology” is a Fortune 500 Company and he has business interests in several countries around the world, including India.



           Mr. Sunny Patole, author of a historical novel in Marathi named “Muktidata Moshe” based on the life of Prophet Moses, which he has dedicated to the memory of innocent Jews who were killed during the holocaust and who lost their lives in defending the freedom of Israel in 1948 will also be felicitated at this function.
