ReputationDefender Joins Forces with Internet Keep Safe Coalition and American School Counsel

School administrators and parents receive key technology tools from a recent partnership between online privacy specialists and education leaders.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Nov 06, 2009 – ReputationDefender.com recently partnered with the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe) and the American School Counselors Association to launch a revolutionary new online product designed to educate school administrators and parents on how to teach their children safe online social networking use.
Project PRO (Privacy & Reputation Online) was rolled out at the American School Counselors Association’s annual meeting in Dallas, Texas, earlier this year. The teaching tool includes digital resources for adults and children with instructions on how they can manage their own online reputations, as well as presentations designed to illustrate the dangers of not being careful when posting information to the Internet. Other tutorials available on the Project PRO website (www.ikeepsafe.org/asca) include statistics and curriculum on how to deal with cyber bullying and dangerous online downloads. Reputation defender gurus at ReputationDefender.com contributed heavily to the Project PRO content.

An online reputation management Q&A and information guide included on the Project PRO website is quick to point out that according to a recent study, 25% of college admissions officers regularly “Google” prospective students before considering them for acceptance. In addition, 75% of employers do some type of Internet search (including on Google, MySpace, and Facebook) before hiring an applicant. Another study conducted by a software developer concluded that younger Internet users, particularly those 18 to 29, are more likely to accept friend requests from strangers than older web users. The 18 to 29 age bracket users are also more likely to share personal information, including facts regarding birthdays, hometowns, and employers, than are other users.

ReputationDefender.com is a pioneer in online reputation management and recommends three tactics parents can use to keep their children’s online reputations safe. One: Limit children’s use of social networking sites and keep up-to-date on who they’re taking with online. Two: Make sure computers are located in a central area where their use can be monitored and check browsing histories of children. Three: Talk with teachers on how children are being protected when using the Internet at school.
