WARDELL RIPS NODLER FOR REMARKS ON LOBBYISTS

Michael Wardell, small business owner, retired Marine, and Republican candidate for the 7th Congressional District, today issued the following statement on State Senator Gary Nodler’s recent remarks on lobbyists:

“I was astounded to read Senator Gary Nodler's remarks on the role lobbyists play in Washington, DC. Based on what he said, one would think 'lobbying up' is a qualification for holding congressional office.

“Nodler implies lobbyists go with the territory, that their support is an indication of your strength as a candidate or office-holder; nothing could be further from the truth. What you need to get elected and get things done in Washington, DC is the support of the people you represent.

“The grip lobbyists have on Congress is the source of so many of our problems. At worst, Senator Nodler is representing the wrong people at the expense of his constituents. At best, he has a political tin ear.

“Members of Congress should represent their constituents, not factions and special interests that contribute to the culture of corruption in Washington, DC. Lobbyists have a right to their jobs provided they don't break the law, but there's no question they exert undue influence on members of Congress. If elected, I pledge to put the interest of my constituents above the special interests.”

Wardell is a medically retired 17-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Japan and Africa with the Department of State. Wardell is married with two children.
